I am not taking on any clients
at the moment due to Waiting list.

Welcome to Cork CBT.ie

I am a BABCP (the lead organisation for CBT in the UK and Ireland) & CBTI (Part of Irish Council for Psychotherapy : ICP) accredited Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT) working exclusively online. Forced into conducting online therapy due to the recent pandemic both myself and my clients have been impressed as to how effective and flexible online therapy actually is. Research also shows online therapy is equally as good as in person therapy. Previously I was also an accredited addiction and general counsellor (IACP accredited) but chose to let those accreditations lapse. I work two days a week in student counselling in MTU so I am very much aware of the mental health challenges our young people face. CBT is evidence based psychological therapy and is considered the treatment of choice for a range of difficulties. CBT has been widely researched and is the most frequently recommended form of psychotherapy for Depression and Anxieties.

I use CBT to help clients who are struggling with issues such as:

  • Depression
  • Low Self-Esteem and having too High Self Expectations
  • Addiction - including Sexual Addiction
  • Stress

• Anxiety Disorders such as:

  • Social Anxiety (includes Public Speaking Anxiety)
  • Panic Attacks and Agoraphobia (Afraid of being in public in the event of a Panic Attack where escape would be difficult or embarrassing)
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (Constant Worrying)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

If you are reading this page, then it is possible you or someone close to you may be struggling with some of the above issues.  There are times in life when we all could benefit from counselling and psychotherapy, I have done so myself.  Maybe you are feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment, or suffering from anxiety and or panic attacks, or you are feeling quite depressed and feel devoid of hope for the future.

Maybe your relationships with significant people in your circle may not be going as good as you hoped they would be.
Have you found yourself shying away from certain social or work situations that you deem anxiety provoking?

Do you ever wish you could communicate more effectively but believe you do not have the skills or confidence to do so?

Or are you one of the many humans who also suffer from high levels of self-criticism and shame?. If so I have completed significant amount of training in the UK in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) which is a therapy to help you alleviate the suffering caused by such self-criticism by us learning ways to be more motivated to be kinder towards ourselves and others.

Any of the above can curtail you from living your life to your full potential. It may be that you have come to a fork in the road and are now questioning how best to address your mental health needs, because if you have experienced any of the above I know from my considerable clinical experience how tough, despairing, overwhelming, scary, restricting and isolating it can be.

How can I help myself?........ What next?...... What is CBT?

CBT is the counselling approach that has proven successful for treatment of the above issues.  CBT has the potential to revolutionise Mental Health in Ireland.

CBT is based on the theory that beliefs, behaviours, emotions and physiology are all interrelated. CBT is a collaborative, present focused, time limited, approach to helping clients who experience unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving. CBT sessions are directed towards clear and lasting solutionsClick here for more.....
